Metabolic Profiling and Metabolite Correlation Network Analysis Reveal That Fusarium solani Induces Differential Metabolic Responses in Lotus japonic…

2021

Root fungal endophytes are essential mediators of plant nutrition under mild stress conditions. However, variations in the rhizosphere environment, such as nutrient depletion, could result in a stressful situation for both partners, shifting mutualistic to nonconvenient interactions. Mycorrhizal fungi and dark septate endophytes (DSEs) have demonstrated their ability to facilitate phosphate (Pi) acquisition. However, few studies have investigated other plant–fungal interactions that take place in the root environment with regard to phosphate nutrition. In the present research work, we aimed to analyze the effect of extreme Pi starvation and the fungal endophyte Fusarium solani on the model …

Band Gap Modeling of Different Ternary and Quaternary Alumina Garnet Phases Y3(AlXGa1-X)5O12 (YAGG) and Lu3(AlXGa1-X)5O12 (LuAGG). A Semiempirical Ap…

2022

A further generalization to quaternary oxide systems of the modeling equation of optical band gap values, based on the semiempirical correlation between the differences in the electronegativity of oxygen and the average cationic electronegativity, proposed some years ago, has been carried out by expanding the approach recently employed for ternary mixed oxides. The choice of oxide polymorphs and their influence on the fitting procedure of an experimental data set is evidenced by a detailed discussion of the fitting process of the literature's experimental band gap data pertaining two quaternary oxide systems of the garnet family, namely, Y3(AlxGa1-x)5O12 (YAGG) and Lu3(AlxGa1-x)5O12 (LuAGG)…

Rainfall Anomalies in the Source Region of the Nile and Their Connection with the Indian Summer Monsoon

1997

Abstract In light of the droughts and subsequent food crises that have plagued the Ethiopia–Sudan region in the course of its history, and especially during the last 3 decades, the author examines both the interannual and intraseasonal variabilities of the July–September rains and compares them to the Indian summer monsoon. Regional rainfall indexes for the region stretching from Eritrea to Lake Victoria are computed using seasonal totals for the period 1901–88. Daily data for 1982–88 are also considered. Though all these regions are only partly affected by the Indian monsoon cross-equatorial flow and although they are separated from India by an extensive dry belt (Red Sea, Somalia, west Ar…

Time spent on the smartphone does not relate to manual dexterity in young adults.

2021

Abstract Background The Grooved Pegboard Test (GPT) is widely adopted to evaluate manual dexterity, it presents normative data but the test is influenced by different factors. The influence of time spent on smartphones has not been considered before, for this reason, the objective of this study was to evaluate if smartphone use influences the time to complete the GPT. A total of 38 (21 women; 17 men) young adults 20.7 (1.5) years participated in the study. The time spent on the smartphones during the last seven days was recorded through the device itself and the GPT performance was measured. A correlation analysis between the time spent on the smartphone and GPT was performed while the t-te…

Comparative analysis of eight cytotoxicity assays evaluated within the ACuteTox Project.

2013

A comparative analysis of eight cytotoxicity assays [the 3T3 and normal human keratinocytes Neutral Red Uptake (NRU) assay, the primary rat hepatocytes, human HepG2 and 3T3 MU assay, and the human A.704, SH-SY5Y and HepG2 cells propidium iodide (PI) assay] included in several work packages of the EU Integrated Project ACuteTox, has been carried out. The aim was to evaluate whether cells originating from liver, kidney and brain provided different in vitro acute toxicity results, and the influence of primary liver cells versus cell lines originated from the same tissue. Spearman rank correlation analysis and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis were performed based on the IC50 (50% inhibitory concen…

Production cross section and decay study of Es243 and Md249

2019

In the study of the odd-$Z$, even-$N$ nuclei $^{243}$Es and $^{249}$Md, performed at the University of Jyv\"askyl\"a, the fusion-evaporation reactions $^{197}$Au($^{48}$Ca,2$n$)$^{243}$Es and $^{203}$Tl($^{48}$Ca,2$n$)$^{249}$Md have been used for the first time. Fusion-evaporation residues were selected and detected using the RITU gas-filled separator coupled with the focal-plane spectrometer GREAT. For $^{243}$Es, the recoil decay correlation analysis yielded a half-life of $24 \pm 3$s, and a maximum production cross section of $37 \pm 10$ nb. In the same way, a half-life of $26 \pm 1$ s, an $\alpha$ branching ratio of 75 $\pm$ 5%, and a maximum production cross section of 300 $\pm$ 80 nb…

Measuring the social impact of research in Paediatric Dentistry: An Altmetric study.

2019

Background: Traditional metrics have been extensively used to evaluate the scientific performance. Despite being widespread accepted, citation-based metrics are not able to describe the social impact of research. A diverse metric, Altmetric, was proposed to overcome those limitations. Aim: This study aims to analyse the social impact of research in the field of paediatric dentistry and to assess if a correlation exists between the JCR citations, the AAS score, and the recently released Dimensions citation count. Design: A bibliometric study was conducted on the four journals related to Paediatric Dentistry listed in the JCR from 2014 to 2017. Descriptive statistics was used to describe the …

Correlation, hierarchies, and networks in financial markets

2010

We discuss some methods to quantitatively investigate the properties of correlation matrices. Correlation matrices play an important role in portfolio optimization and in several other quantitative descriptions of asset price dynamics in financial markets. Specifically, we discuss how to define and obtain hierarchical trees, correlation based trees and networks from a correlation matrix. The hierarchical clustering and other procedures performed on the correlation matrix to detect statistically reliable aspects of the correlation matrix are seen as filtering procedures of the correlation matrix. We also discuss a method to associate a hierarchically nested factor model to a hierarchical tre…

Muscular strength profiles and anthropometry in random samples of men aged 31–35, 51–55 and 71–75 years

1985

Maximal isometric muscular strength and anthropometric characteristics were studied among three random samples each containing about 180 Finnish men belonging to three generation cohorts, and having a mean age of 32·9 ± 1·4, 53·1 ± 1·5 and 72·7± 1·4 years. Strength was measured on special dynamometers for grip, trunk and knee extension and trunk and elbow flexion. The anthropometric characteristics included body height, weight, body-mass index, skeletal weight, fat weight and a weight factor. The youngest cohort had the highest and the oldest cohort the lowest values for strength as well as body height and fat-free body weight, while the middle-aged group had the highest and the youngest gr…
